At 91Â鶹¾«Æ·, Leicester (91Â鶹¾«Æ·) we value the importance of providing appropriate competitive sporting opportunities for our students. From those looking to compete for the very first time, through to those more experienced in competition, at 91Â鶹¾«Æ· we have the opportunity for you.

During Welcome Week there is the opportunity to sign up to clubs and for some, to attend trials and tasters in order to be available for selection to their teams.

Individual sport

At 91Â鶹¾«Æ·sport, we offer unwavering support to all clubs, regardless of whether they participate in team or individual sports. We understand that each club requires the same level of backing to achieve success, and we're committed to providing that. Our team sports and individual clubs receive equal attention and care, so you can be confident that you'll get the support you need.

If you're interested in representing 91Â鶹¾«Æ· in a competitive sport at a regional or national level, we want to hear from you. Even if we don't currently have a club for your sport, we're always open to discussing new opportunities. Team sport

Social Leagues

You do not have to be a member of a sports club to enjoy taking part in competitive sport at 91Â鶹¾«Æ·. If you want to get involved in competition without the extra committment, our Social League offer is the one for you.

 

Taking part in our Social League programme is a great way to partake in fun competition on a weekly basis against other 91Â鶹¾«Æ· students. Whether your team is made up of course mates, housemates, society members, groups of friends – everyone is encouraged to get involved. We could even help get you into a team, just drop us an email at socialsport@dmu.ac.uk.

Club sport

 Our sports clubs reresent 91Â鶹¾«Æ· in three formats: Local Leagues, BUCS and Varsity. You can find out more about each of these below.

During Welcome Week there is the opportunity to sign up to clubs and for some, to attend trials and tasters in order to be available for selection to their teams. Local leagues

Many of 91Â鶹¾«Æ·sport's clubs enter a number of teams into local league competitions every year to enable more students to represent 91Â鶹¾«Æ· in their sport. The clue is in the name, 'local' leagues provide our clubs with a good standard of regular competitive sport close to campus, whether in Leicester or Leicestershire. 

  

British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) and Events

You can represent 91Â鶹¾«Æ· as a team or individual at regional, national and international levels through competitive structures such as British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS). 

BUCS is the national governing organisation for Higher Education Sport. They deliver competitions in over 50 sports (everything from archery to ultimate frisbee) comprising of a busy league programme, knock-out tournaments and one-off events against other universities.

91Â鶹¾«Æ·sport supports a wide range of clubs to compete in BUCS leagues on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays, where clubs have the opportunity to travel home and away to represent 91Â鶹¾«Æ·. If you would like to be involved, please contact the relevant 91Â鶹¾«Æ· sports club to sign up.

Varsity

Each year, Varsity sees 91Â鶹¾«Æ· take on the University of Leicester across a range of sports from American football to swimming, archery and rugby. Our University sports clubs battle it out, representing 91Â鶹¾«Æ· in an attempt to win the bragging rights in Leicester!

The series is a fantastic opportunity to get behind 'Team 91Â鶹¾«Æ·', spectate, compete and cheer! All students and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend fixtures and support our clubs.

Strength and conditioning

91Â鶹¾«Æ·sport clubs also have the opportunity to access a team of dedicated strength and conditioning (S&C) coaches to aid their preparation for and performance in competition. Our S&C Coaches work with a number of 91Â鶹¾«Æ· sports teams within the S&C suite at the Watershed to develop fitness and strength to boost their performances in training and competition, and also work on a one to one basis with all of our 91Â鶹¾«Æ· talented student-athletes.
